Today, Angelina Jolie took her glorious self to the 1844 Room inside Buckingham Palace to receive the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George by the Queen

Jolie is receiving an honorary damehood (DCMG) for services to UK foreign policy and the campaign to end war zone sexual violence.

According to the Daily Mail, Brad Pitt and their six children accompanied Jolie to the palace, and all were introduced to Her Majesty.  Unfortunately for us, they party did not pose for official pictures.

The audience itself between Miss Jolie and the Queen was private. Her Majesty presented her with the insignia in its box,” a spokesman said.  “Mr Pitt and the rest of the family were introduced to the Queen afterwards, however.”

What’s most intriguing about this appointment is that Jolie is both an American and so young.  Honorees usually received their awards later in life, and few foreigners receive such a recognition.

“Because she is a foreign citizen Jolie may not be addressed as Dame,” the Daily Mail wrote.  “Though she can use the initials DCMG after her name, but received the award on an honorary basis for her work at trying to stamp out rape in war zones.”

Former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg recently received an honorary knighthood.  Unfortunately, neither he nor Jolie will be able to call themselves “Sir” or “Dame” respectively.

What is the point, then, I ask?
