To mark Commonwealth Day, the royal family gathered for a service inside Westminster Abbey.

Commonwealth Day allows individuals, communities and organizations to “promote shared Commonwealth values of peace, democracy and equality, and to celebrate the association’s rich diversity. ”

Her Majesty is the head of the Commonwealth, which includes 53 independent and sovereign states.  Some of the countries do not have the Queen as their head of state, but are still considered party of the organization.

Today, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry joined the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Andrew for the procession.

Catherine wore a grey lace coat by Montreal-born designer Erdem with a very chic, very Queen Maxima-like hat by milliner John Boyd.  Designer Rupert Sanderson confirmed via Twitter that Her Royal Highness wore the label’s Winona heels.

Excellent work by What Kate Wore and My Small Obsessions for ID’ing the outfit while I searched unsuccessfully for “grey coat with lace” on Google Images.

For last year’s service, Catherine was pregnant with Princess Charlotte, and recycled a pink Alexander McQueen coat first seen at the 2013 Trooping of the Colour.

Her Royal Highness accessorized with a bespoke Jane Taylor hat.

A video of the procession:

According to royal reporter Emily Nash, Catherine spoke to students from St. Matthew’s Primary School after the service.

“He’s got a scooter,” Catherine said of Prince George.

“He’s going super fast on it. It’s hard to keep up with him. Charlotte is keeping him in check.”

I do not like the new grey coat, and it does not fit her properly – it should not “gape” across the chest area.
