Hear ye, hear ye. The Duchess of Cambridge has left her lace and other recyclable couture at home for SportsAid‘s 40th anniversary dinner at Kensington Palace.

Join me, won’t you, as I celebrate a new number by Roland Mouret so regal (blue) and so elegant that it deserves pride of place in “Gorgeous Royal Ball Gowns” (coming soon).

Because both Kate’s Closet and What Kate Wore are the best at ID’ing Catherine’s clothing, we have details on the gorgeous gown that goes by two names: “Nanset Cutout Stretch-Crepe Gown” and “Cold-Shoulder Fluted Gown.”

Whatever you call it, the sleek piece is a show-stopper.

(PS – it’s on sale in black on Net-A-Porter, in case you had some disposable income lying around).

Catherine paired the stretch-crepe gown with her Gianvito Rossi black suede Sisely sandals, which peeked out under her Temperley London two-piece outfit during her royal tour of India.

The earrings may have been worn in the spirit of this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio, because we first saw a necklace from HRH’s Trinity collection worn to the “Road To 2012: Aiming High” exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in July 2012,  which showcased commissioned photographs documenting preparations for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Tonight, the SportsAid patron welcomed ambassadors and young athletes, all of whom will be competing in the Rio 2016 Olympics, as well as a select number of the charity’s supporters.

SportsAid financially assists promising athletes in training for future Olympic games. Alums include Sir Ben Ainslie (sailing), Jessica Ennis (track and field), Bradley Wiggins (cycling) and Tom Daley (swimming).

The Sun‘s Emily Andrews got some great back shots of the gown’s exposed back zipper as Catherine chatted with guests.

Inside the King’s Gallery, Catherine gave a speech on the importance of athletics.

“Some of you may know that I love sport.  I love cheering on teams and athletes that I’m passionate about,” Her Royal Highness told the audience, adding that she also loves “the way it so often brings people together to work as part of a team.”

The Rio Olympics commence on August 5th.
