Since she and Prince William traveled to Northern Ireland today, the couple were known as the Baron and Barroness of Carrickfergus (just like that lovely blond in The Sound of Music).
The trip took them to a garden party at Hillsborough Castle in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which – according to the Daily Mail – is always attended by a senior royal.
For the occasion, Catherine rewore a yellow brocade DAY Birger et Mikkelsen coat, seen at least four times in the past, including the 2006 wedding of Laura Parker Bowles, university roommate Oliver Baker’s wedding in 2010, Zara Phillips’ wedding in 2011, and the 2012 Paralympics Opening Ceremony.
Her Royal Highness accessorized with L.K. Bennett’s “Fern” stilettos, Kiki McDonough’s “Eden” citrine drop earrings and a lovely Lock & Co. hat that reminds me of either a gorgeous rose, or a cinnamon roll.
Either way, I’m into it. The detail on both the front and back is exquisite, and complements her low, intricate bun exceptionally well.
Like several of Catherine’s hats in recent months, it’s working for me.
According to The Court Jeweller, Catherine adorned her coat lapel with a gold and emerald Irish Guards Shamrock Brooch, which I believe is on loan from the Queen (and worn in the past by Catherine to St. Patrick’s Day parades).
Today was the couple’s second engagement; earlier, they visited the U.S. Embassy in London to sign the book of condolence for the victims of June 12th’s Orlando shooting.
The last time William and Catherine visited Northern Ireland was in March 2011, about a month before their wedding.
They both took part in a pancake flipping contest for charity, since their visit fell on “Shrove Tuesday” (the day before Lent begins).
