One of my nearest and dearest texted me today after seeing the Duchess of Cambridge in a red coat dress by Catherine Walker at the 2016 Order of the Garter ceremony.

“Catherine’s outfit today is one of the best yet. Maybe the best,” she wrote, describing the coat as “magical” and the overall look as “conservative, but sexy” (though, she pointed out, it could fit a little more snug on the shoulders).

She especially loved how the Gianvito Rossi pumps were a slightly different shade of red.

I found this interesting, because royal fans were divided on today’s look, which also featured a Lock & Co. fascinator first seen at the 2012 Diamond Jubilee Thames River pageant, as well as Robinson Pelham acorn earrings (a wedding present from her parents).

Catherine first wore the coat in Calgary during her and William’s 2011 royal tour of Canada.

My personal favorite (as well as that of Jessica from Go Fug Yourself) is the Alexander McQueen Catherine wore to the Thames River pageant (which HRH has worn on a few occasions since).

One look that should get honorable mention the Catherine Walker coat (topped off with a darling Gina Foster hat) wore as she, Prince William and Prince George deplaned in Wellington, New Zealand in 2014.

I think it’s the military style buttons that make me like the above look more than the blazer-style of the one Catherine wore to the 2016 Garter ceremony.

Ok, time to share.  Which red look is your favorite? Why?
