5 Ridiculous Tabloid Covers That Declared William and Kate King and Queen

If I’ve learned anything from glancing over the weekly rags, it’s that gold stickers are a fantastic way to trick people into thinking a headline is real.

Henceforth, I daren’t believe a word any publication states unless it’s stamped with a gold sticker (are you listening, Simon Perry?).

Every story is the same – Prince Charles is being skipped over in favor of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for the British throne because Queen Elizabeth said so!  Camilla is jealous AF and swears she will exact revenge on the beautiful Duchess for messing up her plans to rule over the kingdom!

My favorite part of these tabloid covers is the placement a tiara atop Catherine’s head (bless Photoshop).  And each cover will almost always show Prince William in his Colonel of the Irish Guards uniform (because that’s very regal-looking, no?).  Continue reading

Someone notify the tailor.  I’ll need that McQueen photo tacked to the bottom of the wedding dress dream board.

Liz Lemon found one so grand and so splendid that she assured Jerry Seinfeld it would gets its moment in the sun, no matter what.

I once believed I had found such a dress, but I was wrong.

State Opening of Parliament: A Fascinating Show of British Pomp and Pageantry

Her role as head of state may be technically ceremonial, but Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is still required to preside over a political event crucial to the well-being of her nation.

The State Opening of Parliament is the formal start of the governmental year, taking place in either May or June inside the House of Lords chamber.

Royal Wedding Rewind: Kate Middleton Wanted Flowers In Her Hair, Camilla Said No

I have SO many thoughts about this.

First off, this coming Friday marks five years since the royal wedding.

To celebrate the union of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, it’s key that we remember moments leading up to and during the greatest live event of our time.

Fans (me) were insatiable when it came to wedding plans for April 29th, 2011.

Who would design Catherine’s dress?  What would her and William’s titles be?  Are there really going to be trees inside Westminster Abbey (my father’s question)?

Reporter Catherine Ostler penned a most intriguing story for the Daily Mail, in which the Duchess of Cornwall was (allegedly) trying  to convince Catherine to wear a tiara for her nuptials.

“The latest battleground is that Camilla is said to be desperate to persuade the bride to wear a tiara — even asking friends to intervene on her behalf — because Kate is said to be considering wearing flowers in her hair,” Ostler wrote at the time.

It’s worth pointing out here that few women in this day and age have a justifiable reason to wear a tiara.  A real, historically-rich, priceless tiara that wasn’t purchased in a bridal shop.

And here was Catherine, opting instead for a few flowers to pop in her (albeit gorgeous) hair, a la Fergie at her 1986 nuptials (which looked ridiculous, PS).

You’ll notice that since the wedding, Catherine has only worn a tiara three times; twice to diplomatic receptions (below in 2012), and once to the 2015 Chinese State dinner.

“While Charles and Camilla have no wish to be seen as extravagant or out of touch, they believe there is a level of formality and grandeur beneath which a royal wedding must not sink,” Oster wrote.

“To a certain extent, they [William and Catherine] want to have a royal wedding, be like their friends and be ‘of the people’ — something that Camilla would regard as trying to have their royal wedding cake and eating it.”

I side with Camilla on this one.

“Though Kate is not averse to headgear — after all, she single-handedly triggered a renaissance in the feathered headpieces called fascinators — she knows her long, glossy hair competes with her legs as being her stand-out feature,” Ostler continued.  Continue reading

In Their Element: 11 Delightful Photos of Royals and Animals

It’s a well-known fact that Britain’s royal family would prefer the company of horses and dogs to humans, and several people close to the Queen have said that if she weren’t the sovereign, she’d be living a quiet life in the country.

In February, Prince William was accused of living like a “gentleman country farmer,” since he and the Duchess of Cambridge opt to spend a majority of their family life in Norfolk, 120 miles from London.

Prince Philip once famously said of his daughter, Princess Anne’s love for horses, “if it doesn’t fart or eat hay, then she isn’t interested.”

Her Majesty has owned over 30 corgis since her father gifted her with one in 1944, and still rides horses to this day (wearing a scarf instead of a helmet, despite protest from friends and family).

OK, time to look at adorable photos of  the royal family with animals.  Continue reading

The Most Glorious Photos From Today’s State Opening of Parliament

Today was yet another example of what Great Britain does best, putting on a display of pomp and pageantry as Her Majesty took part in her 62nd State Opening of Parliament.

“The State Opening of Parliament marks the formal start of the parliamentary year and the Queen’s Speech sets out the government’s agenda for the coming session, outlining proposed policies and legislation,” the UK’s official Parliament site explains.  “It is the only regular occasion when the three constituent parts of Parliament – the Sovereign, the House of Lords and the House of Commons – meet.”  Continue reading

One Lets One’s Hair Down For The Royal Windsor Horse Show

Hurrah!  It’s the first day of 2015’s Royal Windsor Horse Show!  Time to put away the hats, purse and gloves and throw on a respectable (but casual) skirt, for the RWHS is a time to stop and smell the manure.

According to the Daily Mail, the Royal Windsor Horse Show has been put on since 1943, when it was originally created as a war-time fundraiser.  Her Majesty was joined by the Duchess of Cornwall, who greeted the monarch with a customary curtsy and one kiss on each cheek.  Continue reading
