Mario Testino For Vogue Magazine

If Vogue invites you to cover their magazine, you leave the denim at home, break out the couture, and have granny unlock the jewel vault.

This is precisely what Crown Princess of Mary did for the August cover of Australian Vogue, her second since marrying the heir to the Danish throne in 2004.

Mary and Crown Prince Frederik were shot by Mario Testino, who’s responsible for other royal photo ops including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s engagement, as well as Princess Charlotte’s christening.

Testino shot the couple at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen, where he himself will open his first solo exhibit.

Mary donned a tiara and a black ball gown by Australian designer Alex Perry for the cover photo, as she walked arm-in-arm with her husband on the palace grounds.  Continue reading

Swedish Royal Palace

Every time a Swedish royal gives birth, I eagerly await the blessed child’s christening, as it’s chock full of footage featuring Princess Leonore doing whatever TF she wants.

At her brother, Nicholas’ christening in October, Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill’s firstborn danced along to the rhythm of a beautiful, christening-appropriate musical arrangement, binky in mouth.

Today, Leonore and Nicholas’ cousin, Prince Oscar was christened in the royal chapel.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel welcomed Oscar on March 2nd; he is their second child and first son.

His godparents –  HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Princess Madeleine, Mr. Oscar Magnuson (son of Princess Christina of Sweden and Victoria’s cousin) and Mr Hans Astrom (Prince Daniel’s cousin) – were all present for the ceremony, as were members of the royal family, and Prince Daniel’s parents.

Sofia could have easily stayed home with her newborn son, but instead she was a trooper and joined her family for a Te Deum thanksgiving service in the Royal Chapel for her father-in-law, King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 70th birthday yesterday.

Today, Denmark’s royal family welcomed Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and his wife, Angelica Rivera for a state visit at Copenhagen International Airport.

Crown Princess Mary, whose husband, Frederik, is the heir to the Danish throne, joined Queen Margrethe, Prince Consort Henrik, brother-in-law Prince Joachim, his wife, Princess Marie and the Queen’s younger sister, Princess Benedikte.

Mary, originally from Australia, adopted Denmark as her home country after marrying Frederik in 2004, and is fluent in the language.  The two met at a bar during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney (she had no idea he was a prince).

Early last month, Christian Louboutin announced he was expanding his empire to include lipstick, a clever move that comes more than year after his brand – famous for its red soles and impossibly high price points – made its foray into beauty with a nail polish line.

Now, Louboutin is offering his customers another piece of art, this time resembling a vial inspired by the beauty and power of Nefertiti, complete with a crown cap and gold base that can be worn as a pendant.

The 38 colors offered come in three finishes, according to Vogue: Silk Satin, Velvet Matte, and Sheer Voile.

One has to ask, is it worth it?  Continue reading

The Court Jeweller Shares Her Favorite Royal Tiaras

Like the appeal of a piece of string to a cat, a sparkling object has the power to capture my attention for hours on end.  Add in a bit of history and you’ll see me only when I emerge for mozzarella sticks and Pellegrino.

Because of this, I asked The Court Jewellers Ella Kay to select four royal tiaras to talk about.   Now only is she a bauble genius, but she acted as one of the sparkle consultants for The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan. Continue reading
