Today, the second official trailer for Netflix’s original series, The Crown was released, delving further into the early days of Elizabeth II’s reign.

The preview opens in February 1952  with a royal aide asking Her Majesty what her “regnal name” will be as monarch.

“Let’s not overcomplicate matters unnecessarily,” Elizabeth, played fantastically by Claire Foy, said brusquely.

It was a somber moment, since Elizabeth’s promotion meant that her father, King George VI had passed away at the family’s Sandringham estate.

5 Ridiculous Tabloid Covers That Declared William and Kate King and Queen

Redbook

If I’ve learned anything from glancing over the weekly rags, it’s that gold stickers are a fantastic way to trick people into thinking a headline is real.

Henceforth, I daren’t believe a word any publication states unless it’s stamped with a gold sticker (are you listening, Simon Perry?).

Every story is the same – Prince Charles is being skipped over in favor of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for the British throne because Queen Elizabeth said so!  Camilla is jealous AF and swears she will exact revenge on the beautiful Duchess for messing up her plans to rule over the kingdom!

My favorite part of these tabloid covers is the placement a tiara atop Catherine’s head (bless Photoshop).  And each cover will almost always show Prince William in his Colonel of the Irish Guards uniform (because that’s very regal-looking, no?).  Continue reading

They were there on official business, but it’s always lovely to pop round to visit one’s grandson at his place of work.

Before she meets with outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron at 5pm, the Queen (accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh) opened a new East Anglian Air Ambulance Base at Cambridge Airport today, according to BBC News.

Coincidentally, this is also where Prince William is based as a pilot for the ambulatory service.

All The Terribly British Things That Happened Today at Royal Ascot

It’s one of the most famous races in the world, and nothing was going to keep patrons from attending what is arguably the most British activity ever – Royal Ascot.

Also known as watching horses race while drinking champagne and wearing fancy hats.

Day one saw a downpour of UK proportions come down upon racegoers, who were decked out in their Ascot finest.

Things vastly improved and the sky somewhat cleared up once the royal family arrived in their horse-drawn carriages (as you do).

The whole day was very British, from the rain to the reactions.

  1. “F***ing British weather.”

2.  “Feeling quite patriotic, actually.”

Well, this is an interesting development.

Though her mother went in 2011 as a guest of the Queen, the Duchess of Cambridge has never attended Royal Ascot, though to be one of the most significant days in the British calendar.

According to royal reporter Katie Nicholl, William and Catherine will attend this year’s race as a sort of birthday favor to Her Majesty.

“They know how much Ascot means to the Queen and they will be there for one day this week,” a source told Nicholl.

“They will enjoy an afternoon in the royal box with Her Majesty.”  Continue reading

Her role as head of state may be technically ceremonial, but Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is still required to preside over a political event crucial to the well-being of her nation.

The State Opening of Parliament is the formal start of the governmental year, taking place in either May or June inside the House of Lords chamber.

The royal family gathered on the grounds of Windsor Castle this evening to toast the Queen, who turned 90 on April 21st.

Tonight’s celebration was particularly special, as it marked the end of the Queen’s favorite occasion – the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Prince George: Mine Is The Greatest Stamp You Will Ever Own

You know what? We believe him.

Yesterday, the Royal Mail released  special edition stamps to commemorate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

Prince George joined his living predecessors for an historic photoshoot, one that sees the future king standing atop durable foam stacks whilst holding his father’s hand.

Brilliant.

The little prince’s first stamp shoot was a true lesson in photography.  Ranald Mackechnie, the man behind the lens, had a splendid time shooting his royal subject.

“He was fascinated by my lights and all the kit, and he was quite happy standing on the blocks, Mackechnie said, according to the Telegraph.

“I took maybe 80 or 100 shots, but when I saw this one I knew straight away that was it.”  Continue reading

In Their Element: 11 Delightful Photos of Royals and Animals

It’s a well-known fact that Britain’s royal family would prefer the company of horses and dogs to humans, and several people close to the Queen have said that if she weren’t the sovereign, she’d be living a quiet life in the country.

In February, Prince William was accused of living like a “gentleman country farmer,” since he and the Duchess of Cambridge opt to spend a majority of their family life in Norfolk, 120 miles from London.

Prince Philip once famously said of his daughter, Princess Anne’s love for horses, “if it doesn’t fart or eat hay, then she isn’t interested.”

Her Majesty has owned over 30 corgis since her father gifted her with one in 1944, and still rides horses to this day (wearing a scarf instead of a helmet, despite protest from friends and family).

OK, time to look at adorable photos of  the royal family with animals.  Continue reading
